Digitized and now on YouTube: The conceptual shortfilm "From Venice to Normandie"
Another one from the box of the lost VHS-video tapes - now on YouTube. I made the film during my Schindler stipend at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture in Los Angeles 1997. Previously to this release it was presented at the Schindler House in Cochran Avenue, at Ririkit Tiravanijas show in the Secession in Vienna and some other places.
The concept of the film is based on a nightdrive through Los Angeles along an earthquake fault line. This fault line directly crossed the corner of the intersection of two streets: Venice Blvd. and Florence Ave. It was exactly that corner where 1992 the Rodney King riots erupted... The text in the middle section is a summary of events two years prior to this event, which caused the most destructive American riot of the 20th century.
One detail: The guitar piece was written and played by myself with an old Casio guitar synthesizer. The helicopter sound also comes from the guitar...
